Introduction
35mm Cannon

Die KD-Serie basiert im Wesentlichen auf dem 20-mm-Oerlikon 204Gk (bekannt als KAA). Die Arbeit an den 35-mm-Geschützen begann in den späten Fünzigerjahren, als Oerlikon errechnete, dass 35 mm das optimale Kaliber für Flugabwehrgeschütze sei.

Oerlikon Contraves 35mm Kanonen werden in mehreren Versionen hergestellt, von denen die wichtigsten Typ KDA für Flug-, und Bodenzielabwehrabwehr, Typ KDB, eingesetzt in den Zwillings-Flugabwehrkanonen vom Typ GDF, Typ KDC-01, hauptsächlich als Marine-Zwillingslafette verwendet, Typ KDC-02, ein Teil des NDF-C-Modifikationspaketes und auch integriert in den 35 mm Geschützen GDF-003 und GDF- 005 und Typ KDE, eine Version die hauptsächlich für den Einsatz in Geschütztürmen für leicht gepanzerte Fahrzeuge verwendet wird. Alle aufgeführten Typen unterscheiden sich in Details und Gewichten. Die Art der Munitionszufuhr variiert je nach Typ.

The 35mm KD series are essentially scaled up from the 20mm Oerlikon 204Gk (now known as the KAA). Work on the 35mm guns began in the late 50's when Oerlikon calculated that 35mm was the optimum calibre for anti-aircraft guns.

Oerlikon Contraves 35 mm cannon are produced in several versions, the most important of which are the type KDA for anti-aircraft and ground use, the type KDB which is produced primarily for use on the twin anti-aircraft gun type GDF series mountings, the type KDC-01 which is used primarily as a naval twin mounting, the type KDC-02, a part of the NDF-C modification package and also integrated in the Oerlikon Contraves 35 mm Twin Automatic Anti-aircraft Gun GDF-003 and GDF-005, and the Type KDE which is a version produced primarily for use with gun turrets for light armoured vehicles. All these various types differ in details and weights. The type of ammunition feed varies according to the type but can be linked, belted or from a hopper.

Im Oerlikon Contraves-System steht das K für Kanone, D steht für das Kaliber 35 mm und A, B, C, E und F stehen für den entsprechenden Waffentyp. 
In the Oerlikon Contraves system the K stands for Kanone (Cannon), D stands for 35 mm calibre and the A, B, C, E, and F stand for Type.
